Uber Cebu Partner FAQs

Here is a compilation of the most frequently asked questions about Uber in Cebu (drivers and operators).

Q: What are the requirements to be an Uber Partner?

A: Official Receipt (OR) and Certificate of Registration (CR) of the vehicle, Professional Driver's License, NBI Clearance and filled up SPA with Uber.

Q: What Uber products will be offered in Cebu?

A: Only UberX will be offered in Cebu. UberX is Uber’s low cost option.


Q: What car models are accepted?

A: Any 4-door sedan (including hatchbacks), AUV, or SUV. Two wheel vehicles, 2-door vehicles, pick-ups, vans or multicabs are currently not accepted. There is no minimum engine displacement, so a 0.8L Hyundai Eon or Suzuki Alto is acceptable. Upon registration, the car should be 3 years old or newer.

Q: Up to where is Uber's coverage area in Cebu?

A: From Talisay City in the south to Consolacion in the north, including Mactan/Lapu Lapu City. The driver can refuse a passenger if the destination is outside of the coverage area. Although the system will still work, there is a small chance in getting a passenger back to the city.


Q: How much will be the rate?

A:  UPDATE (December 2, 2015): The per km rate for Cebu uberX will be Php6.90, while the per minute rate is Php3.00.




Q: How much is Uber's service fee in Cebu?

A: UPDATE (December 2, 2015): Uber's service fee in Cebu for uberX is 25%. For reference, in Manila, it's 20% (of all fares) for UberX and 25% for UberBlack.

Q: How many passengers are allowed?

A: Up to 4 passengers only (UberX). Drivers can refuse if there are more than 4 passengers.

Q: Is cash payment available in Cebu?

A: Update (March 23, 2016): Uber activated its cash payment feature last March 23, 2016. Also, new riders can now sign up for an Uber account even if they don't have credit or debit card. Please check this article.

Q: Can I  pickup at the airport?

A: No. Uber is not yet accredited to pickup at the airport. However, dropoff is allowed.
    UPDATE (May 29, 2015): Uber has not released it's official statement yet regarding airport pick-ups. However, Uber is giving Cebu riders a pro tip via the app as below. Read between the lines! 



Q: What is SURGE?

A: At times of high demand, the number of drivers becomes limited. As a result, prices are increased to encourage more drivers to become available. Raising prices will dramatically increase the number of cars on the road, therefore, more safe and convenient rides will be served.
