DRIVER TIP: Never Agree to Trips Outside of Coverage Area

Uber Cebu Coverage Area

Have you experienced getting a request with destination outside of Uber's coverage area? At first, you'll probably be thrilled by it. Why not? You can go to places you've never been to like Moalboal, Daan Bantayan, Argao, etc. But wait, is it really worth it driving to places outside coverage area with normal Uber Cebu's uberX rate? Let's find out.

First, let's pull out uberX's rate in Cebu:

Then let's pick a popular tourist destination outside the coverage area. I'll pick Moalboal.

Google map says its 100 km away and is 2 h 21 min without traffic. With traffic, let's assume the total travel time is 3 h 30 min, given moderate traffic condition.

Let's plug in these numbers on our calculator. Here's the formula:

Base Fare + (Time Rate * Time) (Distance Rate * Distance) Total Fare
Total Fare   40 + (3 * 210) (6.90 * 100)
Total Fare   ₱1360

So your passenger will pay ₱1,360 for the trip. Deducting Uber's 25% cut, you'll receive ₱1,020.

Let's calculate your expenses for this trip. First, gasoline. Assuming your car's fuel efficiency in highway is 15 km/l and the cost is ₱30 per liter, that's ₱2/km. Next, food expense. Driving 7 hours straight would pretty much complete your day already. So let's assume 2 complete meals at ₱50 each for a total of ₱100. Then carwash for ₱80.

To summarize:

Total Expenses   Gasoline  +  Food  + Carwash
Total Expenses  =  400 + 100 + 80
Total Expenses  = ₱580

So, your take home is ₱440 only. That's if you own the car. What if your driving for an operator? Assuming 60/40, you'll receive ₱176. You decide if that's good enough.

Note: This calculation is based on normal rate. With surge pricing of at least 2x, you'll probably be in good hands.

Tip: For destinations outside of coverage area, try to negotiate the rate before leaving. ₱30-35/km is a good rule of thumb. So for the above example, a trip to Moalboal should be at least ₱3,000.

Let us know guys your comments by posting it below.

Forward-Dispatch Requests: A New Feature That Will Allow Drivers To Accept Trip Request While ON TRIP

Forward-Dispatch Requests: A New Feature That Will Allow Drivers To Accept Trip Request While ON TRIP

Did you notice your Uber phone beeping while still on the way to your rider's destination? That is due to a new feature called Forward-Dispatch Requests. Forward requests will allow you to accept your next trip request while you're still on a trip. This means that you will have less downtime in between trips and be connected with riders closer to your last drop off location. This is a win-win solution for both riders and drivers. Riders will enjoy quicker pickups, and drivers won’t have to drive as long to their pick-ups.

How it works:
1. While on a trip, driver receives a notification  for the next request.

2. After accepting, the screen will go back to the current trip.

3. Complete and rate first trip as normal.

4. The screen will instantly change to en route second trip. Complete and rate second trip as normal.

FAQ:

1. How do I start getting requests before my trip is over?
As long as you or the rider has entered the destination into the Uber app, the system will automatically look for requests near your rider’s dropoff location.
2. Will the next rider know that I’m on my way to them?
Yes. The next rider will see a popup in the rider app stating that the closest vehicle for them is completing another trip nearby, and the system will also show the first drop-off point on the map for clarification.
3. Will acceptance rates be impacted if I don't accept a Forward Request?
Yes. But here's a trick: if you are planning to take a break or already done with your shift/day, just change the last rider's destination after hitting navigate. Right after dropping off  your last passenger, go offline.
4. I have difficulty accepting trips when outside of the Uber Partner app on iOS9.

Change your notification setting.
- Settings > Notifications > Uber Partner App
On the very bottom, switch notification style from "Banner" to "Alert"
- When you receive a request, a notification will pop-up, tap "Options" then select "Accept" to accept the trip request.

Uber Cebu Partners Guide in Preparing Your Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) Requirements

Uber Cebu Partners Guide in Preparing Your Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) Requirements

Congratulations for completing your TNVS Provisional Authority (PA) requirements. You must be busy lately helping riders get around the town! But wait, before your PA expires, you must start preparing your CPC requirements. Here they are:

Most of  the are exactly the same documents as those you submitted for PA. However, some of you might missed the three (3) original copies requirement, so you might need to re-do it.

I'll discuss each of those requirements on an as-needed basis. For now, i'll cover item #15, Certificate of Business Name Registration (DTI for Individual or SEC for Corporation/Partnership) as there is no other requirement for this step.

I'll cover BIR Registration in the next few days, so watch out for that. In the meantime, you can use your 2015 ITR or BIR 2316 on behalf of BIR Registration. However, you should secure one to operate your Uber business legally.

Uber Philippines (Manila and Cebu) made it easier and faster to sign up as an Uber Partner with the online driver training. Starting today, partner-drivers are no longer required to physically attend to a driver on boarding session, instead, they can now complete the driver training 100% online! This is a win-win solution for Uber and Uber partners-drivers. Uber partners-drivers basically can now be activated without meeting any of the Uber staffs. On the other hand, Uber will no longer spen a penny in conducting the driver on boarding sessions. Here's the new sign up process:

5 Easy Steps to Start Driving On Uber

UPDATE (March 14, 2016): Please check this post for the latest sign up process.

Step 1. Sign up at partners.uber.com.
